Most babies look healthy and perfect when they are born. But because some potential problems aren't readily seen, all newborns are tested for certain conditions, including metabolic disorders.
Newborn screening is the practice of screening every baby prior to hospital discharge for certain harmful or potentially fatal conditions that are not otherwise apparent at birth. Newborn screening allows these babies to be identified and treated before they get sick, preventing serious health problems or even mortality.
